Fuchsia Feelings

Things got pretty busy towards the end of last year. For those that don’t know, I started collaborating with Bowling Green Living Magazine as their fashion and style contributor. With the newness of the magazine and finalizing details on my first article, I stayed pretty occupied. But I am beyond grateful for this opportunity and I can’t wait to see what the future holds for me as I partake in this new and exciting adventure.

Now that Christmas and New Years have come and gone and my first article has been published, things seem to be slowing down. So, after more than a month hiatus, I’m back on the blog. With that being said, let’s get started and talk about what you’re really here for, fashion!

As February quickly approaches, thoughts of Spring and warmer weather to come to mind. The dreariness of winter begins to fade away and bright colors start appearing everywhere, including clothing stores. So when it comes to the month of February and it’s so-called “Hallmark holidays”, I tend to follow these classic holiday trends and dress in a warm color palette in hues of red, pink and purple. Some might call this cliché but sometimes dressing for the holidays is what makes them fun.

So, whether you’re searching for the perfect outfit for a Valentine’s Day date or something to wear when hanging with your besties on Galentine’s Day (thanks Leslie Knope), fuchsia is a great color option. This bright and vivid purplish, red hue is sure to make you stand out in a crowd, especially during the season of love.

This dress screams femininity with its combination of ruffles and bow neck detail. It is from Back Down South boutique located here in Bowling Green, Kentucky. If you don’t already follow them on Instagram (@backdownsouthbg) you’re missing out. Back Down South always has the latest trending items that are both stylish and flattering. Be sure to check them out and give them a follow, you won’t be disappointed.

That’s all for this first blog post of 2018! As a new year is upon us, I’m excited to see what the future holds. Stay tuned!

leopard print coat

With temperatures expected to quickly plummet to below freezing later this week, a warm winter coat will soon turn from a fashion accessory to a fashion necessity. But who said a warm coat has to be boring and frumpy? This faux fur leopard print coat is both fashionable and more importantly functional for the upcoming winter weather.

Leopard is versatile print that is always in style! The leopard print pattern can easily be paired with a multitude of colors. Personally, I chose to wear black to better showcase the beauty of this coat.

This faux fur leopard print coat is a showstopper that will definitely turn heads. It is an exotic and bold piece that will elevate your style. So now its time to throw out last years coat and update your wardrobe with something new and exciting!

cozy sweaters and suede skirts

This season I discovered chenille sweaters and lets just say, I’ve become obsessed! Chenille is a soft, tufted type of material. If fuzziness is what you want in a sweater but can’t afford cashmere, than chenille will be your new best friend.

Warm & Cozy

Chenille sweaters are soft and warm making them perfect for the upcoming cold weather months. Above, I have linked a two different styles of chenille sweaters, one of which is currently 40% off making it less than $50! This would be a great Christmas gift for any girl on your list that I’m sure they will love!

Studded Details

Rather than jeans or pants, I decided to style this look with a mini skirt to give this ensemble some sophistication and class. This smooth, sueded fabric mini skirt has a snap-button front detail that is sure to make it a standout!

To better showcase this skirts studded button down detail, I decided to half tuck the chenille sweater.

Half Tuck Technique

The half tuck look is like a fashionable mullet. Think about it as business in the front and a party in the back.

To perform the half tuck, pinch a small section of fabric at the bottom of your top, either in the center or halfway between your hip bone and navel. With that small piece of fabric in hand, push it down into the waistband of your bottoms.

To finish this style, pull the sides down gently so they fall down over the waistband giving you a cool, relaxed and effortless look.

Lastly, no outfit is complete until accessories are added.

To finish this look, I wore a pair of bohemian inspired tassel chandelier drop stud earrings. The rich navy color of the mini skirt tied these tassel earring into the outfit perfectly. It’s as if they were made for each other.

Thanksgiving fashion

Still looking for that casual, classy Thanksgiving outfit? Look not further than these velvet jeans.

For some, velvet is a blast from the past, reminding us of the “better days” during the 1990’s. Recently, however, velvet has made a comeback. I’ve seen soooo many sightings since the beginning of fall season!

Velvet is a tufted fabric, which is distinctively soft to the touch. In the right lighting, velvet gives the appearance of dimension and movement. It’s also perfect to wear during the holiday season.

If you’re like myself, you like to be comfortable during Thanksgiving, especially after a large, hearty feast. That’s why these velvet jeans are perfect for upcoming Thanksgiving festivities.

These jeans are both comfortable and causal, yet add a bit of sophistication to an outfit. They act as a statement piece to any holiday ensemble.

Luckily, I stumbled across these velvet jeans from Old Navy. They can easily be purchased in store, just in time for the upcoming holiday festivities.

They are available in 4 colors and are linked above. Personally, I think the garnet color is PERFECT for a causal Christmas gathering.

I paired these velvet jeans with a simple cream sweater tank I purchased from T J Maxx last year. Fortunately, I found a very similar sweater, and have linked it above as well.

Because these velvet jeans are the centerpiece of an outfit, a simple, solid colored sweater would couple perfectly.

Lastly, I tied this Thanksgiving outfit together with a statement earring from Steel Mill, a local boutique. If you are near the Bowling Green area, be sure to check out their store or follow them on Instragram at @steelmillbg

cream sherpa vest

Hey y’all and happy Monday! Sorry I have been missing in action over the past week. I traveled to St. Louis for a meeting and pulled a couple of overtime shifts at work.

With the holiday season literally around the corner, I’ll be definitely be needing any extra cash for presents and the foreseen Black Friday and Cyber Monday sales.

Today, I’m going to keep this post short and sweet. Vests are one of my favorite cold weather accessory. I found this fuzzy sherpa vest at Target.

Styling & Detail

It is available in cream and black. This vest is warm and versatile. I promise you, it will quickly become a staple in your wardrobe. This vest has a gold zipper in the front that adds a touch of shine and elegance.

Under this vest, I wore a basic white fitted long sleeve crew neck shirt, also from Target. Target is the best place to get affordable fitted shirts. These shirts come in a variety of colors and are the epitome of comfort.

They are ideal to wear under vests and cardigans. Plus, they are priced at only $10! I swear, I have one in almost every color.

For jewelry, I kept it simple and styled this vest with a long strand necklace that has a cream bead and gold tassel detail.

This necklace is from Nest Uncommon Goods, a local boutique in Bowling Green, Kentucky. Gold accessories are great to wear with this vest because they coordinate perfectly with the gold zipper detail.

Lastly, I tied this outfit together with a pair of camo patterned jeans. Camo is a trending pattern right now and can be styled with a multitude of colors.

Because camo is such a loud and bold pattern, I like to style it with plain solid color tops, typically in the neutral colored family.

These camo jeans are from Old Navy. I know I have discussed Old Navy jeans in the past but I seriously cannot express how amazing they are!

These particular jeans are a mid-rise style that sit below the waist and are fitted through the hip and thigh. The raw edged fabric around the ankle adds an edgy and industrial feel.

Thanks for stopping by this Monday edition of Flights and Fashion. Stay tuned later this week for some Thanksgiving outfit ideas!

chunky fringe cardigan

Hey y’all and happy hump day! You’ve made it halfway through the week and its almost the weekend!

Today, I will be discussing this chunky rust colored fringe cardigan and tassel necklace.

Chunky cardigans are one of my favorite things to wear during the fall season. When the temperatures are cool but not cold enough to wear a bulky coat or jacket, chunky cardigans are a great alternative. These type of cardigans provide warmth and style without the inconvenience of having to carry around and keep track of a jacket or coat.

I purchased this rust colored chunky fringe cardigan from TJ Maxx online. I have linked it here. This cardigan is made by Moon River which is a higher end boutique brand. I have many different items ranging from rompers, dresses and sweaters that are made by Moon River. This brand makes quality clothing that is both unique and durable. So naturally, when I stumbled across this cardigan at TJ Maxx online, I knew I had to have it. This cardigan is priced at $35 compared to its original price of $70. What a steal!

I love the rust color of this cardigan. Rust is a great color to wear especially during the fall season. It pairs easily with jeans and a tan or cognac colored boot or bootie.

The fringe detail around the bottom gives this cardigan some extra flair. On each side, running along the fringe detail there is also a tie feature which adds a feminine touch.

For the finishing touch of this look, I paired this cardigan with a handmade necklace from Juniper and Jade Boutique. The owner of this boutique, Rachel, crafts handmade pieces of jewelry that are beautiful and unique. This particular necklace is longer in length making it a statement piece. It has a beaded strand leading to a suede tassel giving it a rustic and earthly quality. This necklace is truly the last piece of the puzzle that ties this ensemble together.

If you live in the Bowling Green area, be sure to check out more of these beautiful, hand crafted pieces of jewelry this weekend at Gypsy Moon Marketplace located at Highland Stables. If you do not live in this area, check out Juniper and Jade Boutique on Facebook and on Instagram at @juniperandjadeky

That’s a wrap on this Wednesday edition of Flights and Fashion. Thanks for stopping by!

new month, new do

Hey y’all and happy Friday! As many of you know, I have put my hair through a lot over the past few months. After returning from vacation I made the decision to cut the majority of the length off and start fresh.

I have never been one to fret over a haircut. My thoughts are, its just hair and it will grow back. So why not change things up a bit?

Here is my hair before the cut and color. As you can tell it was getting rather long and the ends were dry and damaged.

I wanted to give my hair a little something extra so I decided to add some warm tones for the fall season. This helps give my natural brunette hair some dimension.

My stylist, Maggie, creates highlights in my hair by teasing my hair and then dying the ends and lastly applying foil.  This technique creates a more natural looking ombre color.

Here is the final result and I couldn’t be happier! I wanted a blunt cut above my shoulder so I can still be able to pull it up in a ponytail for work. The color is subtle and perfect for the fall and winter season.

If you are thinking about taking the plunge and cutting your hair, I highly recommend it! I’m happy with my decision. I can’t wait to style and play around with it.

Thanks for stopping by and I hope you have a great weekend!
