turn a summer sale item into a fall essential

The first official day of fall is September 22nd, which is right around the corner.  Even though it may not be official, these fall-like, cooler temperatures have everyone in a frenzy!  I find myself becoming more & more excited about the upcoming season change, thanks in large part to the temperatures beginning to tumble.

As the summer season comes to an end, stores will be placing summer styles on heavy discount, shipping them to the sale rack in order to make room for incoming fall merchandise.

This may come as no surprise…it’s a great time to stock up on some summer outfits you may have been lusting over all season.  These summer styles can be saved, worn during next year’s summer season, or be paired with layering pieces into fall, which is exactly what I did here.

I had been wanting this v-neck flutter sleeve top from Anthropologie all summer long, but refused to pay the $78 price.  When browsing through their sale tab a few weeks ago, I noticed this top was placed on a major discount at only $12!

I immediately placed it in my virtual cart and proceeded to check out.  This lightweight v-neck top is both casual and flattering.  The sleeves have a pleated flutter detail that is eye catching, making this top stand out in a crowd.

The flutter sleeve has a subtle, floral pattern, that can be mixed & matched with a variety of different colored bottoms.  This top is a great transition piece, and can be paired with an array of bottoms/accessories, depending on the weather.

I styled this top with a pair of army green cargo pants from TJ Maxx.  These cargo style, elastic band bottoms fit very comfortably, and are an easy wear.  This army green color is one of my favorites.  It can be styled with lots of other colors & patterns.  I found a pair of similar pants here… they’re currently 50% off!

Don’t rule out your summer wardrobe as soon as the weather changes. With the right layering pieces, many of your clothing items can be worn year round.
