summer stripe smock dress

Happy hump day!  Welcome to Flights and Fashion!  I’m very excited to start sharing my fashion journey with y’all.  Don’t mind the mess of a site.  It’s still a work in progress and will be more pleasing to the eye soon enough…

Today, I’ll be talking about this summer stripe smock dress from Asos.  I found this dress online a couple weeks ago and knew I immediately had to have it!  The colors are beautiful and compliment each other so well.

This dress is flattering on any body type and is so comfortable!  Not to mention, the price is only $45!  I can definitely see myself wearing this into fall by throwing a jean jacket overtop and pairing it with some cute booties.

This dress truly makes me want to frolic through fields so that is exactly what I did! Clothing should be fun and express your personality…this dress does both!

I paired this dress with yellow beaded tassel earrings I found on Amazon.  Amazon is the perfect place to find inexpensive jewelry in every color.  Plus, the 2 day free shipping with Prime had me sold!

Thanks for stopping by to read my “first official blog post”.  The support from my friends and family has been overwhelming, and I’m thrilled to share this new adventure with you.  Stay tuned for exciting things to come!

game day ready

Hey y’all and happy Monday! Did you know there is only 19 days left until college football season starts? But who’s really counting? I know I’m ready for another fun filled season! Football is truly America’s past time if you ask me. When I think of football I’m quickly reminded of the fall season. Because I’m like every other basic American girl, fall is my favorite season. The colors, the weather, pumpkins, Halloween and football. Everything about fall is the best!

Leaving in Bowling Green, Kentucky and having attended Western Kentucky University, I am proud to call myself a Hilltopper fan. When I was in college, our team wasn’t so good but over the past few years the Tops have been on top, winning the past 2 conference titles! With the football season only 19 day away, I am already thinking about what I will be wearing to this seasons games.

Western Kentucky’s colors are red and white. I like to go bold with my game day attire.

Red pants are definitely in the heavy rotation. These jeans are from Express. Express is a great place to shop for colored jeans and the fit of the skinny’s are my favorite. These jeans can be paired with any style of white or white and black top.

This white and black plaid top is from I was skeptical at first to order from this website after having heard horror stories. But when the items I ordered arrived at my doorstep I was pleasantly surprised. I loved everything I ordered including this top that was $10! You can’t bet the prices!

The finishing touch to this game day outfit are the red tassel earrings I found on Amazon. Amazon for the win per usual, am I right? These earrings are only $10 as well and on Prime! They are truly the cherry on top.

And of course, last but definitely not least are a pair of amazing sunglasses. This sunnies are my new favorite. They are from DIFF Eyewear and the style is called Rose. This frame looks good on every face shape I’ve seen try them on. They are so comfortable and whats even better is that every pair of sunglasses bought, the company donates a pair of eyeglasses to someone in need in a third world country. This is just another great excuse to buy these fabulous shades!

So the countdown is on! T-minus 19 days until the season starts. Will you be game day ready in time?

festival style

It has been a couple weeks ago now but this year we attended Forecastle Festival in Louisville, Kentucky. This is a 3 day music festival in mid July that is held at Waterfront Park in Louisville. When it comes to festivals I consider myself a veteran. I have been attending music festivals for years now and have traveled across many a states to get to them.

Every year Forecastle happens to fall on my husband’s birthday so to celebrate we make this festival an annual event. But this year was a special year. My husbands 30th birthday was on that Saturday. Some of his best friends were able to travel from out of the state to make it there to celebrate. It was good to see friends that we don’t get to see as often as we would like. We all had a great time together and I was beyond happy they made the trip up to ring in Landon’s 30th year of life!

Music is what feelings sound like.

I enjoy most genres of music so festivals are the perfect atmosphere to hear a variety of sounds and even find some new ones.

Most music festivals are during the summer months so it is usually blistering hot. When it comes to festival wear I like to keep it cool and casual. In my younger years I wanted to look cute but I found myself becoming uncomfortable in the clothes I was wearing. As I got older I was able to find clothes that not only made me feel comfortable but were also cute at the same time.

When shopping for festival attire the first thing I look for are loose fitting and breezy shorts that are easy to pull up and down. You may be asking yourself, why easy to pull up and down? The answer is because the bathroom situation are always port a potties and I personally want to get in and out of those as quickly as possible. When I was younger I loved to wear rompers to festivals. Rompers are fun and definitely make one look the festival part. But with that being said, rompers are fine and dandy until you find yourself naked in a port a potty. That might sound like too much information to some of you but lets be realistic here, finding yourself half naked in a bathroom after wearing a romper has happened to all of us at some point in time.

The second thing I look for when shopping for festival wear is a longer crop top. I know the words “crop top” make some of you cringe but hear me out… Crop tops can be worn on so many figures. I personally like to look for longer ones that will hit about a half inch below my short line. These are perfect for hot summer days because it cuts off about half of the excess fabric that most shirts have allowing for a cool breeze to flow against your upper torso. Because when the sun is high in the sky and the temperatures are just as high I want to be as cool as possible.

This year, I found these shorts at TJ Maxx. They are cotton making them lightweight and comfortable. They are fringe at the bottom giving them that extra little detail that is perfect for festivals. The crop top I wore I got at H&M a few years ago. It is also lightweight and loose fitting making it breezy and cool to wear. The tassel details at the bottom tie into the fringe on the shorts making these two pieces look like the were made for each other.

Another festival necessity is comfortable footwear. I loves wearing sandals such as Chacos or Birkenstocks. Being on your feet for long periods of time and walking a lot is part of the festival life. I couldn’t imagine wearing shoes that are uncomfortable or even worse, something that causes blisters. Find shoes that are comfortable and can get dirty because getting dirty is something that is unpreventable and will definitely happen.

We had a great time at Forecastle this year! I know this is a festival we will attend for many years to come and I can’t wait to see what the future festivals have in store!

day trippin’ to Tennessee

Yesterday my husband and I took a day trip to Cummins Fall State Park in Cookeville, Tennessee. It is roughly 2 hours away from where we live in Bowling Green, Kentucky. Cummins Falls is Tennessee’s 8th largest waterfall and is 75 feet high. If you live in the South Central Kentucky area, I highly recommend visiting this beautiful place.

I would consider the hike moderate in difficulty. It is 1.6 miles each way making it a total of a 3.2 mile hike. The hike starts out in the woods and takes you to the overlook of the waterfall. From there the nature walk travels down hill to the creek bed. This is where the hike gets fun! To get to the waterfall you must travel the creek bed about half a mile. Most of the time you are in ankle deep water. I was so happy with my decision to wear Chacos. At first I was nervous about wearing open toe shoes on a nature hike but they were perfect. They provided me with stability and comfort along the slippery rock path leading to the waterfall.

Once we made it to the waterfall the scenery was beautiful and breathtaking. The trees were green and in full bloom for all eyes to see. We were able to climb on the plateau of the waterfall and feel the mist of the cold water as it crashed down below.

I wanted to be comfortable on the car ride and during the hike so I wore one of my favorite Kentucky for Kentucky  tank tops and the basic yet versatile Nike shorts.

I knew at some point in time I would probably be getting wet so I opted for this cactus print one piece swimsuit from Asos. I scored this swimsuit earlier this summer for $35 and it is still available online! I’m a huge fan of cactus and succulent print fabrics this year so this swimsuit was a must have for me!

I love the coral color of this swimsuit. It is bright without being too in your face. The cut of this swimsuit is also comfortable and flattering on every figure.

I am so glad my husband and I took this day trip to Cummins Falls State Park. Exploring nature is one of our favorite things to do together. I’m excited to take another trip with friends and family back to this gorgeous place soon. Maybe next time we can even take a dog along for the ride with us!

another day, another jumpsuit

Clearly, I love jumpsuits. Regardless of the style or pattern I find mind flaunting towards them time and time again.

I found this little blue number at Blush Boutique in Nashville earlier this year. The fabric resembles silk making it eye catching and comfortable. With the addition of pockets this jumpsuit is easily one of my favorites. The cornflower blue color is quickly becoming a favorite of mine as well. It can be paired with both gold and silver accessories. I will definitely be transitioning this jumpsuit to the fall by throwing a cardigan or leather jacket overtop.

jaunty jumpsuits

As a flight nurse, I wear a jumpsuit daily. One would think I’d get tired of wearing them but it’s quite the opposite. I love jumpsuits and rompers! They are both bold looks that are great year round. Jumpsuits especially are the perfect transition piece to continuing wearing into fall.

I snagged this jumpsuit at Nordstrom. The capri cut length elongates my 5’4 figure creating the illusion that I’m taller than I really am, and who doesn’t want that? The fabric is lightweight and breezy making this jumpsuit so comfortable to wear.  The low cut detail on the back with the crisscrossing straps gives this jumpsuit an extra edge. img_0469img_0454img_0442

keep calm and wear camo

You don’t have to live in the country to wear camo. Camo is a versatile print that makes a statement. It can be easily worn with colors such as black, brown and even blue jean.

I found this cotton pocket t-shirt dress at TJMaxx for $25 (original price of $99 😱). I love how it looks and it’s so comfortable.

Cotton t-shirt and tank dresses are my favorite thing to wear when running errands around town. These dresses are the best of both worlds. They are casual yet give others the impression you are put together. They are a great alternative to the quick Nike shorts and a t-shirt look that I often sport. img_0699img_0707img_0698
