TGIF

Happy Fri-YAY!  Welcome to Flights & Fashion’s weekly wrap up.  Landon and I are headed to Atlanta this weekend to visit friends from college.  It’s always nice seeing people we don’t get to see as often as we would like.

Before we head southbound, I’ll need to pack my bag first.  My mind is currently set on taking this romper I styled a few weeks ago.  This navy romper is from H&M.  It may seem somewhat plain, but it’s far from that!

The straps over the shoulders are created to tie-up, producing a bow, which adds a little extra “girly detail” to this solid navy romper.  The back fabric fastens together with a button, creating a gliding silhouette.  As an added bonus, this romper also has pocket.  Last but certainly not least, it’s on sale for $15! You can’t beat that price!

The shoes I paired are Circus by Sam Edelman.  These lace up sandals are comfortable, and can be worn with everything!  Not to mention, you can snag them on sale NOW for $36!  They’re still available in every size and have 4 different color options to choose from.

My black and white striped tassel and pom pom bag is also Circus by Sam Edelman.  This bag is so fun, and can be worn with a variety of things.  It also comes with a metal strap that makes this clutch convert into a crossbody style.  Plus, it’s currently available for $29!

That’s all for this Fri-YAY edition of Flights & Fashion.  I’m extremely grateful for the response to the blog, and want to thank everyone again for their support this week through our launch!  I hope everyone has a safe and fun weekend!

brows on fleek!

Bold eyebrows are one of the happening beauty trends right now.  The bolder the better.  Like many of you, I plucked my brows to near-extinction in my high school and college years. With that being said, now that I’m 6+ years post-college, I’ve stepped away from the tweezers, leaving the work to the professionals.

When I started growing out my brows, I needed a quick shape up.  At first I turned to threading.  It was quick, efficient, and as an added bonus, I didn’t have to make an appointment.  I would simply swing by the local mall and drop a dime at the kiosk.

I quickly learned that threading was not for me. I kept seeing friends, celebs on social media at brow parlors, and I knew I had to find one.  Unfortunately, they are hard to come by in smaller cities.

I consider myself lucky to have stumbled upon Clique Boutique in Louisville, Kentucky (which is my hometown).  My husband and I frequently visit Louisville to see my mom and run errands at places that are not available in Bowling Green (Trader Joe’s, ugh, to die for!).

I soon found myself chin-deep in reviews on Yelp, Google, etc. and decided to make an appointment.  Almost 2 years later, I’m still traveling northbound to get my eyebrows on fleek! The prices are super reasonable and they offer a variety of services. If you are in the market for a place that can get your eyebrows looking fleek, I highly recommend Clique Boutique.

I utilize Anastasia Brow Wiz in the color dark brown to fill in my brows at home.  This is an easy tool to use, and it defines my brows with minimal effort.  It costs approximately $21 at Sephora, and comes in a variety of colors.  There are also cheaper versions available.

NYX has a carbon copy version of the brow wiz for less than half the price that I found at Target.  The NYX Micro Brow Pencil is only $10, but as an added bonus, comes in a multitude of colors.  Both of these pencils have small tips, allowing for the strokes to have the appearance of fine hairs.

Whether you have bold or barely-there brows, these pencils are a great tool to have and so easy to use!

summer stripe smock dress

Happy hump day!  Welcome to Flights and Fashion!  I’m very excited to start sharing my fashion journey with y’all.  Don’t mind the mess of a site.  It’s still a work in progress and will be more pleasing to the eye soon enough…

Today, I’ll be talking about this summer stripe smock dress from Asos.  I found this dress online a couple weeks ago and knew I immediately had to have it!  The colors are beautiful and compliment each other so well.

This dress is flattering on any body type and is so comfortable!  Not to mention, the price is only $45!  I can definitely see myself wearing this into fall by throwing a jean jacket overtop and pairing it with some cute booties.

This dress truly makes me want to frolic through fields so that is exactly what I did! Clothing should be fun and express your personality…this dress does both!

I paired this dress with yellow beaded tassel earrings I found on Amazon.  Amazon is the perfect place to find inexpensive jewelry in every color.  Plus, the 2 day free shipping with Prime had me sold!

game day ready

Hey y’all and happy Monday! Did you know there is only 19 days left until college football season starts? But who’s really counting? I know I’m ready for another fun filled season! Football is truly America’s past time if you ask me. When I think of football I’m quickly reminded of the fall season. Because I’m like every other basic American girl, fall is my favorite season. The colors, the weather, pumpkins, Halloween and football. Everything about fall is the best!

Leaving in Bowling Green, Kentucky and having attended Western Kentucky University, I am proud to call myself a Hilltopper fan. When I was in college, our team wasn’t so good but over the past few years the Tops have been on top, winning the past 2 conference titles! With the football season only 19 day away, I am already thinking about what I will be wearing to this seasons games.

IMG_0215

Western Kentucky’s colors are red and white. I like to go bold with my game day attire.

Red pants are definitely in the heavy rotation. These jeans are from Express. Express is a great place to shop for colored jeans and the fit of the skinny’s are my favorite. These jeans can be paired with any style of white or white and black top.

This white and black plaid top is from Shein.com. I was skeptical at first to order from this website after having heard horror stories. But when the items I ordered arrived at my doorstep I was pleasantly surprised. I loved everything I ordered including this top that was $10! You can’t bet the prices!

The finishing touch to this game day outfit are the red tassel earrings I found on Amazon. Amazon for the win per usual, am I right? These earrings are only $10 as well and on Prime! They are truly the cherry on top.

And of course, last but definitely not least are a pair of amazing sunglasses. This sunnies are my new favorite. They are from DIFF Eyewear and the style is called Rose. This frame looks good on every face shape I’ve seen try them on. They are so comfortable and whats even better is that every pair of sunglasses bought, the company donates a pair of eyeglasses to someone in need in a third world country. This is just another great excuse to buy these fabulous shades!

So the countdown is on! T-minus 19 days until the season starts. Will you be game day ready in time?

festival style

It has been a couple weeks ago now but this year we attended Forecastle Festival in Louisville, Kentucky. This is a 3 day music festival in mid July that is held at Waterfront Park in Louisville. When it comes to festivals I consider myself a veteran. I have been attending music festivals for years now and have traveled across many a states to get to them.

img_7830

Every year Forecastle happens to fall on my husband’s birthday so to celebrate we make this festival an annual event. But this year was a special year. My husbands 30th birthday was on that Saturday. Some of his best friends were able to travel from out of the state to make it there to celebrate. It was good to see friends that we don’t get to see as often as we would like. We all had a great time together and I was beyond happy they made the trip up to ring in Landon’s 30th year of life!

img_0664

Music is what feelings sound like.

I enjoy most genres of music so festivals are the perfect atmosphere to hear a variety of sounds and even find some new ones.

Most music festivals are during the summer months so it is usually blistering hot. When it comes to festival wear I like to keep it cool and casual. In my younger years I wanted to look cute but I found myself becoming uncomfortable in the clothes I was wearing. As I got older I was able to find clothes that not only made me feel comfortable but were also cute at the same time.

img_0602

When shopping for festival attire the first thing I look for are loose fitting and breezy shorts that are easy to pull up and down. You may be asking yourself, why easy to pull up and down? The answer is because the bathroom situation are always port a potties and I personally want to get in and out of those as quickly as possible. When I was younger I loved to wear rompers to festivals. Rompers are fun and definitely make one look the festival part. But with that being said, rompers are fine and dandy until you find yourself naked in a port a potty. That might sound like too much information to some of you but lets be realistic here, finding yourself half naked in a bathroom after wearing a romper has happened to all of us at some point in time.

The second thing I look for when shopping for festival wear is a longer crop top. I know the words “crop top” make some of you cringe but hear me out… Crop tops can be worn on so many figures. I personally like to look for longer ones that will hit about a half inch below my short line. These are perfect for hot summer days because it cuts off about half of the excess fabric that most shirts have allowing for a cool breeze to flow against your upper torso. Because when the sun is high in the sky and the temperatures are just as high I want to be as cool as possible.

img_0679

This year, I found these shorts at TJ Maxx. They are cotton making them lightweight and comfortable. They are fringe at the bottom giving them that extra little detail that is perfect for festivals. The crop top I wore I got at H&M a few years ago. It is also lightweight and loose fitting making it breezy and cool to wear. The tassel details at the bottom tie into the fringe on the shorts making these two pieces look like the were made for each other.

Another festival necessity is comfortable footwear. I loves wearing sandals such as Chacos or Birkenstocks. Being on your feet for long periods of time and walking a lot is part of the festival life. I couldn’t imagine wearing shoes that are uncomfortable or even worse, something that causes blisters. Find shoes that are comfortable and can get dirty because getting dirty is something that is unpreventable and will definitely happen.

We had a great time at Forecastle this year! I know this is a festival we will attend for many years to come and I can’t wait to see what the future festivals have in store!

day trippin’ to Tennessee

Yesterday my husband and I took a day trip to Cummins Fall State Park in Cookeville, Tennessee. It is roughly 2 hours away from where we live in Bowling Green, Kentucky. Cummins Falls is Tennessee’s 8th largest waterfall and is 75 feet high. If you live in the South Central Kentucky area, I highly recommend visiting this beautiful place.

I would consider the hike moderate in difficulty. It is 1.6 miles each way making it a total of a 3.2 mile hike. The hike starts out in the woods and takes you to the overlook of the waterfall. From there the nature walk travels down hill to the creek bed. This is where the hike gets fun! To get to the waterfall you must travel the creek bed about half a mile. Most of the time you are in ankle deep water. I was so happy with my decision to wear Chacos. At first I was nervous about wearing open toe shoes on a nature hike but they were perfect. They provided me with stability and comfort along the slippery rock path leading to the waterfall.

Once we made it to the waterfall the scenery was beautiful and breathtaking. The trees were green and in full bloom for all eyes to see. We were able to climb on the plateau of the waterfall and feel the mist of the cold water as it crashed down below.

I wanted to be comfortable on the car ride and during the hike so I wore one of my favorite Kentucky for Kentucky  tank tops and the basic yet versatile Nike shorts.

I knew at some point in time I would probably be getting wet so I opted for this cactus print one piece swimsuit from Asos. I scored this swimsuit earlier this summer for $35 and it is still available online! I’m a huge fan of cactus and succulent print fabrics this year so this swimsuit was a must have for me!

DCIM131GOPROGOPR4996.JPG

I love the coral color of this swimsuit. It is bright without being too in your face. The cut of this swimsuit is also comfortable and flattering on every figure.

I am so glad my husband and I took this day trip to Cummins Falls State Park. Exploring nature is one of our favorite things to do together. I’m excited to take another trip with friends and family back to this gorgeous place soon. Maybe next time we can even take a dog along for the ride with us!

another day, another jumpsuit

Clearly, I love jumpsuits. Regardless of the style or pattern I find mind flaunting towards them time and time again.

I found this little blue number at Blush Boutique in Nashville earlier this year. The fabric resembles silk making it eye catching and comfortable. With the addition of pockets this jumpsuit is easily one of my favorites. The cornflower blue color is quickly becoming a favorite of mine as well. It can be paired with both gold and silver accessories. I will definitely be transitioning this jumpsuit to the fall by throwing a cardigan or leather jacket overtop.
